LAKE TAHOE CATERS TO FAMILIES

Lake Tahoe has long been a premier year-round destination for families. What make the region unique is its abundant recreational activities, scenic beauty and natural centerpiece, the largest alpine lake in the country.

In winter, the area receives more than 400 inches of snowfall each year resulting in some fantastic family ski and snowboard outings. Many first-timer and beginner skiers call Homewood Mountain Resort, located on the West Shore, home.

While visiting Lake Tahoe, some families take part in non-ski activities, such as dog sledding at the four-star Resort at Squaw Creek or ice skating at Squaw Valley USA, both in Olympic Valley, California. Families can also make their own mountain experience by trying a variety of snow toys, such as the snow bikes and snow scoots, at Northstar-at-Tahoe's Polaris Park in Truckee, California. The resort also offers tubing, snowmobile tours and snowshoeing.

There's also river rafting, mountain biking, kayaking, fly fishing and, of course, hiking. Some of Lake Tahoe's best hikes are located on the North end of the lake. Families will want to check out a portion of Tahoe Rim Trail, a 150-mile loop trail just finished after 20 years of work that winds along the ridges circling Lake Tahoe.

North Lake Tahoe is located approximately 45-minutes from the Reno Tahoe International Airport, which is served by more than 100 flights daily from major cities. For reservations and information, contact Lake Tahoe Central Reservations, the area's largest reservation center, at 1-800-824-6348 or visit www.mytahoevacation.com
